While studying in Jönköping, Sweden, Vanessa witnessed the essence of early curiosity: how children saturated the room with conversations, questions, assertions, and assumptions. Vanessa noticed how each of these communications were positively impacted by the careful and repetitive messaging of good children's books.
In particular, the stories of Swedish author Astrid Lindgren, were raw and honest. Lindgren translated stories about death in the same way she described birthday parties. Children responded to each story with endless authenticity: death was a part of living, just as going to someone’s birthday party was a part of life.
With this indescribable inspiration in her hands, Vanessa began writing custom story-books for the children in her classes and therapies. "Story-book therapy" as she calls it now, addresses the underlying need, not just the surfacing symptoms.
Vanessa utilizes, originally written custom Story-books to compliment her parent coaching approach. She also uses them in her custom social skill groups and 1:1 play therapies.
Vanessa's custom story-books rework relationships, routines, boundaries, and expectations. Her story-books become "comfort items" for children to revisit over and over again; story-books that make a noticeable difference and live in your child's library for years.
